Little Red Riding Hood
Developing this new depiction of Little Red Riding Hood with a simple hood and eyes created a striking visual. Pressing on with the concept further, I loved the range of emotion coming from minimal features.
The anonymity of the character allows for them to be more inclusive. Not the typical little girl with short hair, but open to being different. The hood even takes the place of hair, leaving even more open on who it could be. Projecting ourselves and investing in that character further.
The goal for this iteration is whimsical and playful. The simple shapes of the eyes and wolf’s teeth for example, instantaneously express of the emotion, communicating the tone of the scene. Experimenting with perspective and guiding the viewer towards the action and next page drives the story forward.
A secret second narrative with the frog following Little Red is sprinkled throughout the rough book dummy. The frog invests in the journey and becomes inspired to take action all their own. Can you spot him?
